Public Transport Information: How to Travel to Leeds

Travelling by public transport from Manchester Airport to Leeds city centre is straightforward. The most popular choice is the train: Manchester Airport has its own railway station with frequent services to Leeds city centre that typically take around 1 h 20 – 1 h 40 min and with advance fares often cheaper when booked early.

Travelling from Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) to Leeds city centre by public transport is generally easy and budget-friendly, even though there’s no direct train connection at the airport itself. The most common and affordable option is to take the Flyer A1 bus service, which departs from just outside the terminal building and runs regularly throughout the day (typically every 20–30 minutes) into central Leeds — with stops including Leeds Bus Station and Leeds City Square — taking around 40–50 minutes depending on traffic and the number of stops you choose.

Because there’s no rail station at LBA, the bus is by far the main public transport link; from Leeds City Square or Bus Station you can easily walk to key city centre destinations. For early morning or late-night arrivals when buses may be less frequent, many travellers choose to use the taxi service from the airport rank, which offers a quicker but more expensive journey of around 20–30 minutes into the city.

Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)

Visitors to the UK need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) if they do not need a visa for short stays of up to six months, or do not already have a UK immigration status. From 25 February 2026 eligible visitors without an ETA will not be able to board their transport and cannot legally travel to the UK.

An ETA is a digital permission to travel – it is not a visa or a tax and does not permit entry into the UK – it authorises a person to travel to the UK.

British and Irish citizens do not need an ETA.

Applying for an ETA is quick and simple. Most applicants currently get an automatic decision in minutes when applying through the UK ETA app. Visitors can find more information about applying for an ETA on GOV.UK

An ETA currently costs £16 and permits multiple journeys to the UK for stays of up to six months at a time over two years or until the holder’s passport expires – whichever is sooner. Other application services may charge a higher fee than the UK Government.
